Enhance Your Vocab with HK entertainment- Lesson 2

1.) soporific- to cause sleep

Ex: Even though I am a fan of Ron and Leila, Fei Huen and Chi Ling had some soporific scenes in Twins of Brothers.

2.) obsequious- obedient, very attentive, showing deference

Ex: In many ancient series, obsequious eunuchs attend to the empress and concubine's whims and demands to gain favor.

3.) recant- to retract

Ex: In Brink of Law, there was a scene in which ah Chun (Ron) caught Ka Yee (Shirley) throwing away dvds/cds that he request her to give to ah Long (Stephen Wong) to watch, but she recanted her action by saying her aunt wouldn't allow it.

4.) proscribe- to condemn/denouce; to banish

Ex: In Dance of Passion, it was shown that woman who was raped or had affairs were proscribed and punished.

5.) loquacious- talkative; synonyms: verbose, garrulous

Ex: Chilam's character, Yeung Gwong, in Take My Word For It, was very loquacious since he tends to give many quick witted comments and explanations, though most were hilarious!
